Engaging children long enough to read a book can feel like a real mission these day’s. But it really shouldn’t. Reading provides so many positives in a child’s life.
Up until the age of 7, children learn to read.
After this age, they read to learn.
Reading provides knowledge and knowledge gives a child opportunity and options in life.
There are various ways children can learn sight and high-frequency words but we have found that a fun approach to learning has the best effects.
This little boy on the right is called Alistair and his mother spent weeks and months we are told trying to teach him sight words through flashcards but alas Alistair just wasn’t interested and none of the words stuck in his mind. He started playing some of Spike’s Board Games [he is playing the Construction Board Game in the picture- Browse now – http://nby.ff6.mytemp.website/product/construction-board-game] and because the games were fun and engaging, he quickly began to memorise the words he needed to.
He is the perfect example of how Spike’s Sight Words Board Games can help a child learn to read.
When you pick a board for your child, make sure the board will grab their interest. There is no point picking a dinosaur board if your child has no interest in them!
So far, we have over 30 board games on the website and in time we will have more. This way, we have made sure that there are enough board games to cover different interests from children.
If your child loves space for example then we have a whole themed box to cover this where all 3 board games are dedicated to this theme. We have 10 themes so far.
So take your time when browsing and really make sure you choose a board your child will like.
Feel free to use real objects also like real toy cars, LEGO people etc as a way of making the boards more animated and interesting.
GOOD LUCK
