WHAT IS NEGLECT DYSLEXIA?
A reading issue known as neglect dyslexia occurs when one side of words or letter strings is misread. According to Caramazza and Hillis’s research (Cognitive Neuropsychology 1990; 7: 391-445), the condition may be caused by a deficit in the initial phases of visual word recognition. There are three layers of representation at play, and each has matching spatial coordinates. These stages show a shift from the tangible stimulus to a word’s more abstract representation.
A patient with a level one deficiency makes mistakes related to where a word is in the visual area. A patient with a level two deficiency makes mistakes related to the letter(s)’ spatial location within the stimuli. A patient with a level three deficiency makes mistakes that are related to the ordinal location of a letter or letters inside a word.

This example represents a dyslexia deficiency due to left-lateralized neglect (Hillis & Caramazza, 1995), however there have also been occurrences of right-lateralized neglect (Moore & Demeyere, 2020).
